            Notice issued to Prasar
Bharti for failure to broadcast games on Doordarshan
source:http://daily.bhaskar.com/ | New Delhi: Prasar Bharti was issued
notice by the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court for its alleged
failure to broadcast all games of national and international importance on
      Doordarshan channel.
The court has asked the Central government to place its response on the
issue and has fixed October 29 as the next hearing date. The PIL moved by
      a local lawyer Purushottam Awasthi.

The petitioner alleged that section 3 of the Sports Broadcasting Signal
mandatory sharing with Prasar Bharti Act 2007 necessitated that all sports
and games of national and international fame as Cricket tournaments,
Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Olympic Games must be broadcasted on
      Doordarshan.

Awasthi also said that many tournaments including the Asian Games are not
being broadcasted on Doordarshan which is a violation of law. This not
only deprives the people of the country of viewing the sports and games
but also pushes Prasar Bharti towards numerous financial loss, he
      contented.

The bench issued a notice to Prasar Bharti on September 26 for its reply
to be given by October 8. The bench had further asked Assistant Solicitor
General SB Pandey to obtain instructions on the matter from the Central
      government.

As the PIL was taken up on Wednesday, the bench of Justice VK Shukla and
Justice BK Srivastava found that the notice had not been served upon the
Prasar Bharti. Hence, the bench issued fresh notice to Prasar Bharti.
